Birdsong - in the background, a disaster relief alarm siren grows louder – the bomb falls and explodes… Double bass kicks in with heavy guitar scrapes...... now that’s what I call an exciting opening to a battle. Because the second album of the Kiel-based force HEIRS OF WRATH is indeed a (musical) war. The album title fits like a glove. But do the HEIRS OF WRATH play trash metal – groove metal – death metal – power metal or hardcore? I don’t know, but the album strongly smells of the sweat of Max Cavalera (SOULFLY & SEPULTURA), the last beer of Dimebag Darrell (R.I.P. PANTERA), and the leather bracelet of Robb Flynn (MACHINE HEAD). There’s a lot of blood flowing in (and for) this album, you can almost feel it. These 45 minutes even wake the ¾ dead (!) as there’s not a peaceful minute after the intro. I like it (thumbs up).
The only thing I don’t like is the growling of singer Sven F.. His deep grunting reminds me of Chris Barnes (CANNIBAL CORPSE & SIX FEET UNDER). And so I don’t understand half of the German lyrics L. Good thing the lyrics, which all deal with war, death, and anarchy, are printed in a fairly simple booklet. However, I’m somewhat at odds with the song "Mutterschänder"…
