When I first heard it, I thought to myself: "Sorry, this just doesn't work! An Eros Ramazzotti with a flowing 80s mane trying to act tough..." This is mainly due to my listening habits, as I am more accustomed to German or English music. I wondered if I would judge the same way if Johnny Freak sang in English instead of Italian? I gave the CD "Tra il silenzio il sole" another chance, and lo and behold: the band is not that bad at all! Johnny Freak plays rock, but they mostly have calm tones in their repertoire.
Musically, they are very diverse, and even their harder tones can convince. As a purchase recommendation, it's only for those who know what they're getting into with Italian rock and are used to the language. Or for those who are looking for something new from around the world. I still need to warm up to Italy's music scene ;-)
