If a band starts their song with the riff from “Gerechtigkeit” by SLIME, then they can't be a bad band. Similarly, HOUNDS & HARLOTS begin their first song this way. And this song is a real hit right from the start. “Divisadero” is a track that has spice, it rocks, and it really lifts your spirits. It's a song that perfectly describes the band's style. But just as you start to enjoy the composition, it moves on to “Shot Down.” A fast start, a mid-tempo chorus, and then full throttle again. The song suggests that it's about fighting someone with armed violence. Far from it; the song is more about staying true to oneself and not being tempted to do something foolish. This lyric, with the title in a country that preaches freedom but promotes the use of weapons. Yes, even seeing the right to carry a weapon as a fundamental right. A fundamental right that has cost thousands of people their lives. A fundamental right that brings death. Here, the finger is pointed at the wound.
But there's hardly time to catch your breath, as the band has packed their lyrics into short songs, so on “The good fight,” it goes from one to the next.
HOUNDS & HARLOTS have released their debut album with this, and as can be read in the interview with the band at ramtatta.de under the link http://www.ramtatta.de/interviews,id-114.html, they have put in a lot of effort.
You can hear this effort in every second of this CD.
The band has given a lot of thought to both the lyrics and the music. The result is catchy melodic punk / melodic hardcore songs.
While listening, bands like Rat City Riot or Born to Lose immediately come to mind. Both bands pair melody with speed and a dedicated stage show. Both bands deserve to be bigger than they currently are.
HOUNDS & HARLOTS are currently on a tour through Europe. They can mostly be seen in small clubs. This is something you shouldn't miss, as I strongly assume that the band gives their all on stage every night. Judging by the album, that's quite a lot. The trio deserves to be seen!
