15 years ago, in 1998, a label was founded that, by its name, was certainly the label for all bands that do not come from or have not come from the mainstream. Where does a band definitely not want to be if it is outside the mainstream? On a…MAJOR LABEL!
Major labels are the bad guys, right? They are the ones who only want to make money.
MAJOR LABEL probably wanted that too. Such a label requires a lot of work and is also a risky undertaking. Whether they are now, 15 years later, making enough money to pay the rent and keep the fridge full is unknown. However, it is known that this label from Leipzig has left significant marks in the music world over the last 15 years.
MAJOR LABEL has had and still has bands under contract that make music outside the mainstream. Music that is sometimes hard to access even for open-minded people. Music that is what music should be. Not background noise, but something with substance!
It all started with a release from State of Emergency and Serene Fall, the offshoot of the legendary EA80. The current release is “You Pay I Fuck“ by Kommando Sonne-nmilch.
Creating a label sampler that reflects the last 15 years is challenging enough, but getting the represented bands to provide previously unreleased songs for this sampler seems to me an impossible task. MAJOR LABEL has made the impossible possible. There are almost exclusively exclusive songs on the disc, which are being released here for the first time.
The 24 contributions are from illustrious bands such as Leatherface, Strahler 80, Fliehende Stürme, Die Art, Kommando Sonne-nmilch, Brockdorf Klang Labor, Die Art, and many more.
The CD showcases the entire range of the label. Punk, alternative, noisy rock, psychedelic sounds, experimental sounds, electronic (disturbing) music, avant-garde, wave, up to an excerpt from a radio play, the range is vast.
It is sometimes exhausting, sometimes relaxing, sometimes disturbing, but always original. It is far removed from the whole post-something trend that is currently so popular. This is all real! This is all sincere!
For those who prefer the 24 contributions on vinyl, it should be noted that the tracks have found a place on a double LP, and in addition to the regular black version, there is also a limited collector's edition in clear vinyl available directly from the label.
Those who prefer a smaller format can opt for the CD, which comes in a beautiful and elaborate digipack.
15 years of MAJOR LABEL! Congratulations! Keep it up!
This label sampler should of course not be missing from any collection!
P.S.: The most important thing in cooking is stirring (for those who didn't know yet!)!!
