Aha, well, the style doesn't mean much to me, I only knew Stoner Rock until now. So, drawer #324567 opened and in it goes.
With this music, it's more about developing a sound concept that runs through the entire album. This has been achieved here. I would describe the sound visually like this: a damp basement in November in the dreariest part of the city. Perfect conditions to create such a sound. That's how Black Sabbath, the Godfathers of Stoner Rock, also started.
The guitar sound is fuzzy as it should be, and there are some bizarre lyrics delivered. The whole thing is damn rough and has a lot of energy. Additionally, the crooked sequences really enhance it nicely. But still, these are very simple and can pull you into their vortex.
I find it hard to pinpoint the highlights of the album. A compelling aha experience is missing. The whole thing is very monotonous, and as I said, the band seems to focus more on the overall concept. For me, the songs "Zero Gravity", "Rapid Expanding Space", and "High Drive" stand out. The keyboard instrumental "Do Androids Dream of Electric Guitars" is also interesting. Furthermore, at the end of the album, there's the cover "Hell on Wheels" by Fu Manchu.
I find the binary codes (0s and 1s) for the track numbers on the back cover very original. I really like that!
Oh, and do they hit the heating pipes in the basement during "Unleash the Whiskey"?
Well, I would say it was quite solid. Fans of Stoner Rock will surely enjoy it. It didn't really blow me away. I guess it's because I listen to this kind of music rather infrequently. There are creative approaches, but somehow, as I said, it is also a bit monotonous.
