What a clichéd punk cover, was my first thought when this EP landed on my desk. Very much punk, very much cliché.
And yet, SWISS & DIE ANDEREN are not punk, at least not what the average punk understands as punk, namely punk rock. SWISS & DIE ANDEREN primarily make rap with punk rock. Rap and punk rock, can that work?
Before I received the EP, I watched the video for the song “Schwarz Rot Braun” (not a cover version of the Toxoplasma classic). The video is also worth watching after multiple audiovisual experiences. The German bourgeoisie gets a good dose of reality check. A very refreshing song, especially in the context of the increasingly strong security mindset that inevitably accompanies a conservative, racist, xenophobic, and bourgeois attitude. The song and the video creatively address latent racism and German coziness.
Against Germany!
Only the women in the video do come off as a bit of a rap and hip hop cliché. As an enlightened person, one can also recognize a certain sexism there. Perhaps this is just to ensure that the average bourgeois and proletarian also watch the video. Then those are exactly the people that SWISS addresses. Bullseye!
The video can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4efeaW6kSo
So after this song and video captivated me, the EP landed in my hands. Four more songs are on the CD, and all the songs manage to excite me.
In the opener “Finger zum MW,” SWISS refers to himself as a punk. Before the mohawk wearers and scene police complain. Punk is not just a music genre. Punk is in the mind. Punk is an attitude. You don’t only need punk rock; you can also listen to this EP. Musical tastes may differ, but the attitude in the heart is the same. The aggressive, easily understandable vocals are accompanied by hard guitar riffs and a driving drumbeat. What comes out is indeed punk with rap.
The lyrics are thoughtful, provocative, aggressive, and presented from a personal perspective. While SWISS & DIE ANDEREN take themselves seriously, one cannot deny a certain sense of humor. He sings in “Klatsche” that he indeed has one.
He doesn’t want to be normal. Don’t we all want that, to not be normal?
The line,
…we are asocial ticks, no pause rockers…
says it all. No cuddly rock of the suburbs, no wannabe. Here it gets straight to the point. The lyrics make it very clear. It’s not about the facade; it’s about the building, it’s about the substance.
The third song “Vermisse Dich” features Ferris MC. This song reflects the difficult age of over 30. You have a savings plan, watch “Frauentausch,” and have a wife who likes Til Schweiger. Why have you become this way? The old times are missed. I can relate, not with the wife, the savings plan, or “Frauentausch,” but I know it in my personal environment. Who doesn’t know that? Staying true to yourself over 30 is possible, but it’s getting harder. The song “Vermisse Dich” is the perfect song to call up old buddies and go out together again (which is not called a piste, but a street, where you come from) to have fun.
The last song “Schampus oder Bier” shows the band from a sentimental side. The song is about the cherished togetherness, without which we all cannot live. You can tell in this song that SWISS & DIE ANDEREN can also be romantic.
The EP “Schwarz Rot Braun” has managed to convince a guy like me, who hardly listens to rap. SWISS & DIE ANDEREN are really putting something out here that I probably have never heard before. If this becomes a new music style or a new movement, it is fully and completely worth supporting.

Alter sind die häßlich. By the way, frei nach Spinal Tap: What's wrong with being sexy?<br />Von der Musik aber mehr als brauchbar, ein neuer Versuch von Crossover, ohne dabei in stupiden Nju Metal abzugleiten, da bin ich dabei!

Hallo.
