Even after hearing "Blind Until We Burn" for the 50th time, my jaw still drops. What a fat, awesome debut album from the 5 guys of New York City's outlying island, Long Island. Even though KISSING CANDICE has only been around for 3 years, these 5 guys must have some musical background, because something this heavy (without being a put-together and financed boy band) doesn’t come out of nowhere.
The fact is, this debut album tops everything I have received for review this year so far!!!!
And what makes KISSING CANDICE particularly interesting and a standout feature is the fact that they don’t just hammer down one music style, but several, all of which convene under the broad umbrella of crossover-alternative-rock-nu-metal. As mastermind and frontman Joey Simpson aptly explains in the info sheet: “Each song on this album is different from the next....". Each song is different, and therefore I think of a different band for almost every one of the total 13 songs that this song could also belong to. And that ranges from KORN to DISTURBED, LIMP BIZKIT, and SLIPKNOT (the band photo fits this very well too) to FAITH NO MORE (!). My thumb goes way up for these bands, so KISSING CANDICE had a bit of a home advantage from the start. On the other hand, this also raises expectations, and those were fully met over the 40 minutes of this debut album. :-)
Simply a killer album and a must-buy for anyone who also enjoys the mentioned music styles.
Unfortunately, I do not have a booklet or the lyrics, which usually means a point deduction. But for this killer album, it can only receive the highest score, so I have to make an exception here!!!
