The phenomenon is probably known to everyone: the more often you listen to an album, the more you like it. This is also the case for me with the third (mini) album of the Siegen duo KLOTZS. Not that my first judgment was bad; no, even upon first listen, the 8 songs from "Hinweis in eigener Sache" were quite good, but the quality of the songs only manifested itself gradually. By now, I am thrilled after listening to the album about two dozen times, and if I listen to the vinyl record (! Yeah Vinyl !) another three dozen times, I would probably crown it as the album of the year. But the review needs to be written soon (after 6 weeks of intense enjoyment)....
What astonishes me the most is the volume of the songs, even though besides Ingo's vocals and his guitar, only Sascha's drums can be heard. Nevertheless, the songs are bursting with energy. Not always and everywhere; there are also quieter passages, but when the two of them hit the gas, it’s full throttle over the A45 into the big wide world. They take EA80, DIE STRAFE, and FLIEHENDE STÜRME along, as musically, the four are quite similar in many aspects. KLOTZS has also been around for 20 years, but 3 (mini) albums, which only feature 6 - 10 songs, is quite little. However, there are also several (split) singles. And when you really warm up with "Zirkeltraining" (the last song on side B), the 23 minutes of playtime on "Hinweis in eigener Sache" are already over. If there is anything to complain about on this magnificent album, it’s that the record with its brilliant dark punk-kraut-rock-noise simply ends way too quickly.
Otherwise, I can only give plus points. It starts with the album cover featuring a slit (for the small booklet!) (great idea!), goes through the brilliant lyrics to the fantastic melodies. Allegedly, the LP is also available in a limited colored version. There is definitely always an MP3 download code included. Thumbs way up! There doesn’t seem to be a digital version in the form of a CD, but why would there be? The vinyl record with download code is more than enough, is a real eye-catcher, and is relatively inexpensive!
So BUY BUY BUY!
