There are few bands that are nearly impossible to Google. BERLIN DISKRET is one of them. You end up in all sorts of places when you search for this combo online. Human abysses open up. But eventually, you find something, and you even get some information about this punk band.
BERLIN DISKRET is a band that doesn't push itself into the foreground, but has certainly found recognition in the underground with their first album. This was released in 2015 and is titled “Kurfürstendamnedamnedamned“. The grand boulevard of West Berlin, a street that embodies the reputation for consumption, luxury, dancing, and strolling like few others. Or did, depending on perspective and age.
“Lustlos bewusstlos“, this is how “Working and Living“ begins. A soundtrack that lyrically seems somewhat out of time. It’s about someone who just hangs around at home all the time, listlessly unconscious. Are there still people like that? Isn’t everyone busy, toiling away for a few bucks without any sense or reason?
“Entertained controlled“ fits like a glove. Don’t think for yourself, better let the media steer you. Thinking is really exhausting...
BERLIN DISKRET lyrically and musically follows very much in the footsteps of Zack Zack and especially The Shocks. Listening to “Working and Living“ reminds me a lot of The Shocks and what this band has meant and still means.
It’s no wonder, as part of The Shocks is in BERLIN DISKRET.
On record, BERLIN DISKRET sounds almost as if they are playing with the handbrake on. The music videos already give a much different, more rebellious, and powerful impression. I strongly assume that the band is even more rebellious, powerful, and certainly noisier live.
