The new hot shit from Berlin.
So it says in the information sheet from the record label that brought this release to market. That's quite a lofty claim.
The new hot shit from Niederndodeleben would be a lower claim, but it probably wouldn't interest anyone either. So better to aim high.
PLEITE already released a demo last year and then “In the Hall Before the Dogs“, exclusively as a tape. Eccentric, right?
Twisted Chords have now helped the band with a vinyl release. The songs from the tape were remastered and a bonus song was added. Since that still wasn't enough for two sides of a record, all songs were put on one side. The second side is adorned with a white screen print. So the hearts of collectors will also beat faster.
With this, PLEITE underscores their eccentric claim.
Tape release, one-sided vinyl record...what's next? Maybe a shape CD?
And what does PLEITE offer?
PLEITE offers punk rock with “In the Hall Before the Dogs“. Raw, unbridled, wild punk rock, full of anger. They are really pissed off. Really angry.
The lyrics are relatively hard to understand due to the loud, noisy guitars.
However, after a few listens, you get somewhat accustomed to it.
To categorize the sound, I would say Supernichts with loud guitars and aggressive vocals. The band might also remind you a bit of Hammerhead. Then I think of Love A, but their vocals are too friendly.
Lyrically, the band is very engaged. Especially songs like “Frau Naumann” (on the topic of refugees) or “Germany, You Perpetrator” (Germany is not a victim, but a perpetrator! Let that be said to you, you flag-waving idiots) show how much anger the band has and how much correct, if not to say right, worldview the band members possess. This sometimes also leans towards the old punk rock bands like Toxoplasma. Not a bad reference considering that hardly anything has changed for the better in the last thirty years.
In times of resurgent nationalism, xenophobia, hatred of foreigners, and new bourgeois attitudes, PLEITE is something like the counterpoint to that.
Next time, a little quieter guitars or a lyric sheet and I could delve even more into the sung material. What can be understood is definitely pleasing.
PLEITE is a discovery.
As if punk is dead!!
