Since 2002, THE MOVEMENT from Denmark has been around.
In the last 16 years, the band has experienced everything, as far as I can tell.
A steep rise followed the release of “move!“ in 2003, and then it continued at full speed with their second album “Revolutionary Sympathies“. The band quickly went from being a hidden gem to the new hot shit. The terror group took them on tour. They played all over Europe. They played indoors and outdoors. They always gave 100% on stage. Hardly anyone could escape the joy of playing and the band. They quickly became the talk of the town.
For the band, 100% was not only about their performance on stage but also about their political views, which they were never shy about. For justice and for the workers. They have read Marx, Liebknecht and Luxemburg are icons for them, they see socialism as a solution for our society and they want that solution. One couldn’t blame them back then, and you can’t today either. Too much is going wrong on this earth, and let’s be honest, what has improved in the last 16 years?
Thus, the band is more relevant than ever with their songs!
There have been many lineup changes in THE MOVEMENT. The steep rise was followed by a staircase that led downwards. The clubs got smaller, as did the open-air stages.
The head of the band, Lukas Scherfey, then recorded songs that he released under his own name. These songs were different from the songs of THE MOVEMENT. They were mostly fine, delicate, yearning love songs.
Unfortunately, success did not come. I would have wished it for him. They are beautiful, wonderfully beautiful songs.
THE MOVEMENT reformed again, this time with new band members. And now, slowly but surely, things are starting to look up again.
The first album “move!“ is now being released for the third time by Concrete Jungle. The demand seems to still be there. Perhaps some people are rediscovering this band. A band that still gives everything on stage. A band that wrote the soundtrack for change with “move!“. The record, 15 years old, still has enormous power. It still captivates.
THE MOVEMENT calls their music Mod-Punk. That’s fitting. They have also built their own drawer in the big cabinet of music styles, which bears their own name, THE MOVEMENT!
Anyone who doesn’t know the band yet, or has only heard about them, is hereby tasked with buying the album on April 27, 2018, listening to it, listening to it loudly, and listening to it again and again.
The inclined buyer will not only receive the old record but also four bonus songs. This way, the fan has something new as well.
THE MOVEMENT is also currently on tour.
I rated the record 10 out of 10 points some time ago. That remains the case; it is a fantastic record. The soundtrack to the revolution, to change.
