One should not only listen to the first song when previewing an album! Because then I would have set aside the debut album of the three Berliners, who originally come from Spain ("Muerte" ≙ death), Ukraine ("miЙ" ≙ my), and France ("amour" ≙ love), right away. Not because it is musically bad; the post-hardcore really hits hard.... evil, tough, crashing, and in this particular case maybe a bit too dull in the recording (not highly polished) but awesome. It’s the two vocal ranges of Kostia that don’t appeal to me in the first song "Mösh Pit"; this extreme screaming and the shaky melodic singing (in this one case) just don’t resonate with me personally, but why not give it a listen yourself: https://youtu.be/DQhgSkWgZPM
However, with the second song "Amygdala," it gets better right away; maybe the songs are just better structured or something.... And by the time we reach the third song "Succubus-Incubus," which blasts out even more melodically, they’ve got me.... also because the song reminds me of SMOKE BLOW, even though according to the info sheet WAR WITH THE NEWTS is more oriented towards REFUSED and AT THE DRIVE-IN.
Except for the fourth song "EVOL my Friends," which clearly falls into the destructive "In Utero" phase of NIRVANA, everything is great. Speaking of lyrics, all 10 lyrics are printed in the booklet, simple and efficient, along with a meaningful cover that, however, needs to stand out more to catch attention in a CD series. Inlay card and CD label are all top-notch. I just wish there were more than these 10 songs or 28 minutes, as the CD is over way too quickly, especially since the other songs are just so catchy....
