Hööö? I know this music.... LOKALMATADORE? KNOCHENFABRIK? SUPERNICHTS?
No, this is DETLEF! Never heard of it, yet somehow recognized! Because DETLEF is made up of ⅔ SUPERNICHTS and ⅓ gasoline (ahhh wrong song) ⅓ INCOMING LEERGUT. And since the 3 guys (in their prime years) all have the first name DETLEF [according to Wikipedia one of the most popular first names in Germany from 1935 to 1965 (!) as well as the typically Kölsch surnames Löber, Meurer, and Damm], this name is of course fitting as a band name. The same goes for the album title "Kaltakquise" which refers to the very first approach to potential customers, meaning you and me!
And this very first approach "Kaltakquise" is on constant rotation for me! The CD just won't come out of the drive, the melodic punk rock has gotten stuck in the player and my brain.... 19 stories in just under 40 minutes, which are part of my and your life story and have been skillfully set to music by DETLEF. Chapeau!
Always nice 2 minutes long about love, booze, sports (is dancing a sport?), accommodations, musicians, money, the urge to pee, socially-ecological parents, old friendships [with corresponding music (who is Barclay James Harvest?)] and so on and so forth.... I know it, you know it, we all know it....
"Only the best die stupid" even goes over the 3-minute mark and if this title sounds familiar, yes, it's about assholes! Want a little excerpt? "When Ben and Kevin drive again, on well-built highways, it's usually overtaken on the right, on the way to South Tyrol."
There’s even a line about me (from "Dagmar Dein Plan"): "Then you took Karsten without glasses and belly, a horse from a good stable and otherwise quite a wimp, who has no idea about the game, no plan and no goal" (hey, don’t give everything away! ;-))
Last but not least (all lyrics are of course in German) the record ends with the melancholic DETLEF blues, which musically doesn’t fit at all, but well, the record starts over again with roaring applause....
For the booklet, I should actually give a bonus point, but there are just no more than 10 points.... So "Kaltakquise" gets 10*** ;-)
