I had to be more than...years old for a band to finally dedicate a song to me. Even more so, a song that is practically the soundtrack of my life.
….Whenever I’m sober, I think too much...
...and when I’m drunk again, it becomes clear to me...
...that the world makes no sense and yet I’m still here.
A song from life.
Don’t ask what’s wrong with you. Instead, ask others what’s wrong with them. When you look at the world like this, your share doesn’t add up. It’s not us leftist scum, us punks, but the others.
KOTZREIZ released their album right in the middle of the Corona crisis. At a time when you can no longer go out drinking together, even though spring is just around the corner.
Of course, you can also see it positively; this way, you can learn the songs for the next concert of the three Berliners at a relaxed pace.
It’s nice to sing along, with a Sterni in hand. The late-night shops are still open. They are also necessary for local beer supply.
The eleven songs with a total playing time that is almost an imposition to call it an album, I don’t understand. In that time, you can hardly enjoy a proper barley cold one. However, there is at least variety and eleven really good songs. Alongside catchy punk rock with equally catchy lyrics, there are also excursions into Eurodance with Emilie Krawall. “Toilettenstern” is really great. A song full of life, filled with longing, loneliness, too much thinking, and desire. It’s surprising that no one has thought of writing a song about it before, considering we’ve all probably felt that way at some point.
KOTZREIZ manages to cement their status in the scene with this album. Catchy punk rock, lyrics straight from life, and music that is classic German punk. However, and this is interesting, not trashy. Or rather, somewhat trashy, but trashy with class.
Songs like “Punkboys don’t cry” reflect one’s own life. This particular song shows that one is far removed from the dullness that German punk is unfortunately still often accused of (and there is indeed some truth to it). At some point, you find yourself sitting alone at the bar, wondering why.
Why is everyone else gone?
Why have the others said goodbye to punk?
Why is the world like this?
Does it really make sense? Well, not really, and so the circle closes. That’s why we are often, soberly unbearable. And, back then, hangovers only lasted a day. Yes, back then...
KOTZREIZ has recorded a refreshing German punk album.
Oh yes, the planned tour with Pestpocken has been postponed. It will be on tour in early 2021.
