This is the cover of the new album "Head" by GrGr.
GrGr released their debut album in 2019 and now follow up with "Head."
GrGr hails from Munich and sounds different and like many things.
The band's electronic sound strongly resembles NDW and related genres. I also think of EAV, especially their older works, but here the wordplay and that unique blend of comedy and seriousness are missing.
The sound is definitely danceable, and in the quieter moments, GrGr moves into the realm of New Wave / Cold Wave. GrGr can also be dark, and as I look out into the darkness, I must say that songs like "Too Much in My Head" create a very own atmosphere. An atmosphere of coldness, loneliness paired with defiance and anger.
The lyrics often describe situations and feelings that, unusually for this type of music, consist not only of fragments but are complete texts. Texts with a beginning and an end. Texts that are clear and can be followed linguistically and thematically.
With "Head," GrGr has created an extraordinary album, at least for me. The album is being released physically only as tape and vinyl. Of course, the album will also be made available to the digital world.
"Head" is an interesting album that anyone who can appreciate electronic sound should give a try.
