P. Paul Fenech, a name that every Psychobilly knows.
Mr. Fenech is not only the head of the only true Psychobilly band for many, The Meteors, but he also regularly releases solo albums. These albums bear enticing titles such as “International Super Bastard” or “The F-Word.” The latest work is beautifully titled “Demon Seed Rising.” P. Paul Fenech remains true to himself with these titles. The dark, the eerie, the frightening is what continues to fascinate him, and not just him.
This album is about the seed of demons. It revolves around the demons primarily within us... in him, in the world of P. Paul Fenech.
The world of the singer from The Meteors is dark, full of rejection, full of hatred, but also full of longing and vulnerability. This will not be a psychoanalysis, but anyone who engages with the work of this man inevitably touches upon these points. These are themes that run through the life of P. Paul Fenech. They are themes that run through all our lives, especially for those who lived and live Rock'n'Roll in all its facets. So it is not surprising that this work, which includes 18 (!) songs, features titles on the tracklist such as:
Not enough time to say how much I hate you
Planet of the Brain Eaters
The Devils Tango
Cold cold Ground
Musically, P. Paul Fenech also remains true to himself. Surprises have been few since the last solo albums. Why should this album be any different? At a certain age, in which the good gentleman finds himself like many of his fans, such things are not necessary. The very own style of dark and minimalist Rock'n'Roll, Country, Psychobilly of the old school, and dark guitar rock is exactly the sound that has been his trademark for many albums. Not to forget, of course, the voice. A raspy voice thoughtfully sings the often sparse lyrics. Sorrow, anger, resignation, hatred, but also longing can be heard.
Everything as always, I would say, even though I think this work might be more organic than the last albums, but that is certainly a matter of taste and can be discussed at one of the concerts planned for this year.
