What do we know from Limburg an der Lahn?
There are beautifully renovated half-timbered houses, including the “Haus der sieben Laster“. This has nothing to do with trucks, but rather with the Bible. And we are all familiar with the Bible and know what those vices are, right? Envy, pride, unchastity, sloth, and a few other things.
BUBONIX comes from this beautiful city.
The band has been around for many years and, in contrast to the well-kept Hessian small town, they make exactly the opposite kind of music.
Anyone involved with hardcore punk and related genres couldn't overlook this band in the past, although at least for me, they were more under the radar than above it. Hopefully, this will change with this album.
On “Through the Eyes“, there are ten songs that you wouldn't automatically associate with a German band.
The opener is “Approval of Despair“ and starts with an intro that would also fit very well in a sinister film or video game. Just these first seconds of the song grab you, and then it kicks off.
BUBONIX blasts out of the speakers with such an energy on these ten songs that you might get dizzy. Hardcore punk, hardcore, and here and there influences from metal, especially thrash metal. I think of Hammerhead or 7 Seconds or even Minor Threat.
Yes, here are ten songs that have their roots in the old school and sound as fresh as if the band just started with 20-year-olds. That is absolutely astonishing and fascinating. How did the band manage to pull this off?
BUBONIX is one of the surprises of this year for me. Not really on my radar before, but now I can't imagine it without them.
As expected, the new work from BUBONIX is available only on vinyl and digitally.
