BLACK MAGIC SIX (BM6) are two Finns who have released several albums. However, they were never heard alone, but always had friends and fellow musicians who contributed musically or with their voices. That is not the case on this album.
The two Finns, Taskinen and Motherfuckin´Japa, have taken a completely unique path with "Black Cloud Descending".
"Black Cloud Descending" is a hefty album that does not make it easy for the listener. It is not music to be played in the background. The music of these two musicians demands that you listen to them intently. You should do so, otherwise you will miss something.
"Black Cloud Descending" is an album that stylistically moves between blues(-rock) and dark rock'n'roll. Hints of punk, stoner, and noise rock, even old-school psychobilly (as played by The Meteors or P. Paul Fenech), can also be heard here and there. The rough, sometimes even really scratchy rasp of Taskinen's voice fits perfectly into the bluesy, dark songs. A voice that laments and screams and sings, always perfectly matching the sound.
It is a bit of a shame that the album is released in summer, because for me, this is music that fits better in the darker season. It is music that embraces the darkness and takes discomfort by the hand.
It is incredible what just two musicians have put together here.
"Black Cloud Descending" is an album that bands with twice as many members could not achieve in this quality.
