A new album from HAMMERHEAD!

After 26 years, a new album. Most bands don’t even last that long.
I didn’t expect this band to release another album. Well, here it is, and the album title couldn’t be more fitting for the times. The title of the album is: Thinking About Germany
A big title that leaves plenty of room for interpretation. It could simply be the thoughts the band has had. The result is fourteen songs that do not revolve around the big questions. It also addresses questioning one’s own scene and its behavior. The result here is the song “Sommer“. It’s about festivals, and the chorus goes:
In summer, at the ass end of the world
That’s where the money is made
I don’t want to say too much, but I’ve rarely heard a song that deals so critically with this topic. Expertise: Punk Merchant!
The song sets a justified counterpoint.
Punk rock was once this movement against everything, including capitalism. Today... well, many bands dream of making money with the band and even living off music. Is that still punk rock? The Ärzte once asked this, and one can rightly pose the same question here. Of course, there are DIY festivals, and not everything is crap, but questioning why not. Does punk rock have to follow money just like pop music does? Please no answers, let me keep my illusions!
HAMMERHEAD has always taken on many challenges, and they haven’t forgotten how to do that.
The initially designed beautiful album cover was immediately banned with a temporary injunction, and looking at the lyrics, it doesn’t get any better (...bring me the head of Alexander Dobrindt...).
Somewhere on the internet, I read “music from grumpy older gentlemen.”
It couldn’t fit better. The band has lost neither its anger nor its energy.
