THE SLACKERS are releasing a new record.
Shortly before the presidential election in the USA, on September 20, 2024, the 12" vinyl will see the light of day.
It is by no means an album; it consists of just two songs with titles fitting for the presidential election: “What we gonna do now“ and “Pick and Choose“.
What will we do if Trump wins?
We’d rather not think about that, because then we’ll get in a bad mood and develop frown lines. Both of these do not make us look good and can lead to bitterness.
So I’d rather turn up my sound system and listen to the two songs by THE SLACKERS from New York City.
The band has long been an institution in the ska scene.
For years, they have been playing a sound that blends jazzy ska, rocksteady, ska-pop, laid-back soul, and a pinch of reggae into a unique, very danceable mix.
So is “What we gonna do now“. The Jamaican influence is unmistakable, and that laid-back groove that carries the song is simply wonderful. You can hear the high quality that has made the band a great band for many years... some already say, a legend. It doesn’t get much better than this. It’s nice; you don’t even think of bad things. But of course, THE SLACKERS also care about delivering a message, as they always have, especially in times like these.
“Pick and Choose“ starts with a nice brass section, then comes the singing of Vic Ruggiero, and then it gets really groovy. Reggae-ska at its finest.
The two songs are once again proof, if there is still a need for such, that THE SLACKERS are one of the best bands in their genre.
The band will be on tour soon. Attending is highly recommended!
