What happened there?
A band was formed that adopted the name NO LIFE LOST in 1989 and played hundreds of concerts until 2015. Not only that, with their ska punk songs, they were a staple in the scene. Similar to No Respect, who also disbanded far too early. But now we are talking about a band from Hamburg and not from Göttingen.
In 2015, the Hamburgers decided to lay the band to rest.
Many tears, hanging faces, and an emptiness that cannot be filled so quickly.
It only took a few years until the itch returned, as it often does when musicians are passionately in love with their music. In 2019, a band named THE NO was formed (I can't get the line through the “O” on my keyboard). This band consisted of former members of NO LIFE LOST, and what did they do? They played the songs from back then.
They didn’t call themselves NO LIFE LOST, but they exclusively played songs by NO LIFE LOST and made no secret of it. What do you call that?
A band that covers itself. What is that?
In which pub, with plenty of Astra and high-proof caraway in their heads, did they come up with this idea?
However the idea came about, the fact is, it was well received!
Both the audience and the band were thrilled, and thus the madness began once again. At some point, there was a request for recordings, and since they didn’t let up, my favorite Berlin ska label took heart and is releasing this LP with 15 songs.
The title “Melodien für Momente” is reminiscent of one of the best albums by Terrorgruppe called “Melodien für Milliarden”.

There is danceable ska-punk, there are 2-tone-heavy pieces, there are songs that remind me of the album “Strahlen” by Dritte Wahl, and there are songs that sound like good old simple punk rock with a rock influence.
So there is something for everyone, and for fans of THE NO as well as NO LIFE LOST, this LP is certainly more than just a piece of music. It is a piece of memory. A piece of life.
At Christmas, some people will surely be very happy to find this good piece under the green fir tree.
