"My Last Star" sounds like something is coming to an end. One last time shining with all its might, and then the great darkness comes.
In fact, this is exactly how it is on the 12" with the same title.
Greg Lee from the Hepcats had a dream shortly before he was to forever enter the stage of heaven. In this dream, he recorded a song with the Slackers. A song, mind you, that did not yet exist. When Greg woke up, he immediately wrote down the music and the lyrics. He then set his creation aside, and shortly thereafter, he went to a better place.
After his death, Mandie Becker, Greg's partner, found the recordings and ultimately recorded the song with THE SLACKERS.
When you hear the lyrics, it really touches your heart.
Greg sings as if he knows he will be leaving soon.
It is a sad but also beautiful occasion for the release of this song.
A piece of music history ends with Greg Lee, yet it lives on in this wonderful song.
A portion of the proceeds from the 12" goes to the four daughters that Greg Lee leaves behind.
