Someone is quite hopeful.
“It’s About to Get Better,” is what the band FRACHTER from Weimar calls their second work, which is described as German Indie Punk with an emo edge.
It sounds cumbersome, and it is.
“It’s About to Get Better” by FRACHTER is like reality. Often overwhelming.
I can hear influences from Pascow and Love A, but also the angry tones of Die Sterne or Tocotronic make themselves known.
The lyrics are sometimes clear and sometimes cryptic. At times they come in telegram style, and then suddenly they tell stories.
Above all, the clattering, very dominant drums hover. Guitarist and singer Aaron screams and yells against it. I’m not quite sure if his volume is intentional or if he is consciously fighting against the drums. In any case, his voice brings a lot of energy, anger, and despair, which greatly benefits the music.
You can tell while listening to the record that the band has poured everything into this album. The production is generally good; personally, I would prefer a greater differentiation of the instruments and a vocal performance that is clearer to hear. However, this is probably intentional, and it definitely fits.
For fans of Pascow or Love A, I can give an unconditional recommendation. Everyone else might want to listen first to see if the band is for them. Interested listeners can do that starting now. The band will be on stages that matter all summer long.
