So, the new CD by DIE DÖDELSÄCKE. I also got the first one handed to me and listened to it once. Now, here’s a second attempt. The band themselves describe as Ruhrpottschotten, the Scottish fun-punk from Mülheim/Ruhr. Surely, this is an accurate description of their music, which I find hard to endure in the long run. And I don’t know why. I believe it’s the singer's voice and the rather bland lyrics. Musically, it’s all quite nice; alongside the usual German punk racket, beautiful flutes and a bagpipe are played. And this comes across well in the instrumental passages. But unfortunately, that’s about it. I just can’t think of a reason why many bands from the Ruhr area have to hang this Ruhrpott attitude so high. It becomes embarrassing in the inlay, where cigarette butts were extinguished in the remnants of the usual Asischale (currywurst, fries, mayo). Why am I making such a fuss? Because it’s unnecessary. The CD cannot hold up against comparisons with the giants of this genre - there’s still a lot of work to be done. Well, it costs 7 euros. Those who are into folk-influenced punk can give it a try.
