Oh dear, I have to approach this quite objectively. What THE CALLAHAN from Stockholm delivers here on their debut album is not really my music, but certainly not bad either. Pop is clearly in the foreground here, but it is carried into the Indie rock genre by the vocals of frontman Andy Callahan. ABBA meets THE STROKES or THE SOUNDS meets ACE OF BASE. The total of 12 tracks on "Hardpop" consist of synth melodies, sometimes underpinned by gritty guitars, which, however, do not really manage to etch themselves into my memory. Fans of this music will surely declare one or the other song a hymn, but for my taste, it sounds too clean and smooth.
