Aaarrghh, the weekend was long. Sleep was in short supply and now I’m sitting here listening to this record by the girls and boys from Luxembourg, and my nervous flutter is slowly calming down. It’s all very relaxed and melodic here. I can see the beach not just on the cover in front of me. It’s a shame that autumn is just around the corner, because this is the soundtrack for summer and cocktails in bright sunshine. "Sunday-Ska" is what this style of ska is called according to the band info. Yes, that fits. It sounds relaxed, with beautiful melodic arcs and a pleasant brass section that knows its craft. That’s how you easily put a smile on my clenched face. Well, a trombone would also suit the brass players, then the sound would be even rounder, but it doesn’t stand out much (I’m currently listening to track 10 and do hear a trombone, or am I mistaken?? Yes, that should be one, and it pushes the music further forward). And it’s also very varied, sometimes very slow ("Dem People"), then again a bit faster, but all in all always with original ideas and a potpourri of intertwined styles from rocksteady to northern soul to jazz influences. The vocals have a warm sound and underscore the good music. The presentation is less impressive, just a small insert with a band photo and that’s it. But it’s all about the music, and it delivers. The only downside from my perspective is the unnecessary dub version of "Dem People" as the last track. Aside from the fact that I generally find such remixes pointless and dull, it really is the low point of an otherwise good and entertaining record. But that’s what the skip button is for. So overall, it’s a thoroughly recommendable album, varied and relaxed.
