RamTatTa - EASTSIDE BOYS – The Boys are back in Town

The Eastside Boys from beautiful Berlin, or rather former East Berlin, deliver what is probably their most mature work with this record. The band has become more adult and mature. Musically, their roots are clearly in Oi, which is still evident. However, influences from Deutschpunk as well as streetpunk can also be heard. This trio forms the foundation of all the band's songs. Most of the tracks come in a pleasant mid-tempo. It is rockier than Deutschpunk or Oi, but too punk to really be rock. The 13 songs on the CD (in the limited edition with a stylish patch) in the beautiful digipack mainly deal with transience and aging. The songs give courage and push you forward, as in "Waiting for the hidden Track". Simply waiting and watching and hoping that it will get better is not a way to live. Suddenly, you are old and gray and have experienced nothing. What are you supposed to tell your grandchildren then? Exactly, and that's why it’s time to get up and dive into life, and enjoy the good times you have. Of course, the songs also reflect the life experience of the band, and in many songs, the band portrays what has been experienced or seen. Even criticism of their own scene is expressed, with "Pfeffi macht den Punk kaputt"! With "Scheisse schwimmt nicht immer oben", the band gives an intelligent yet very simple statement about all the brown filth that has been spreading more and more lately.
Politically, with their heart in the right place and with sympathetic music, the band manages to entertain the inclined listener on this album. However, after listening through, not much sticks. That certain something is missing. Thus, EASTSIDE BOYS have not yet ascended to the top league of punk rock / Oi with this album.
