DIE AERONAUTEN are back. With "Hello Passion," the Swiss musicians led by singer/producer Oliver "Guz" Maurmann present their 7th studio album. ++++ A lot has happened during these seven albums. They have their roots in punk, which they still never deny, although it can now only be referred to as roots. Stylistically, they have added more and more influences. Latin swing, fifties, calypso, percussion, brass, bossa nova, and punk rock. Did I forget something? Certainly. ++++ And indeed, here and even more. In total, there are 13 tracks on the new release, showcasing all facets of a band that does what it wants; or must. Those who can grasp this music will recognize that there is no copying here, no jumping on a bandwagon. This is trendsetting. Music is made here, stories are told, all in the style of DIE AERONAUTEN. ++++ Personally, it becomes too much for me at some point. This colorful mix surprises with every song anew. And I don't need that much surprise. But that is solely my feeling and should only be mentioned in passing. Musically and lyrically, this is top-notch. The arrangements are tight, and the artistic ambition is evident. ++++ It's also nice that aging plays no role here. While listeners over thirty might be astonished by some young bands and find the lyrics to be from a long-gone era, one can feel at home here. The age group and its absurdities remain intact. ++++ Good.
