New Energy Classic Rock…what is that?
WILD CHAMPAGNE from Wiesmoor (between Leer and Wilhelmshaven) has existed with changing line-ups since 1991. That's a really long time. Something can mature. Something can grow! Or not, because WILD CHAMPAGNE has remained stuck in the 80s and especially in the 90s. Their music is a mix of cheesy hard rock, classic rock, and melodic, guitar-driven rock. The drums almost always play the same beat, are recorded powerfully, but that doesn't save everything. The guitar plays solidly and can really shred during some solos. Additionally, the vocals oscillate between hard rock opera and radio-friendly, bland rock.
Moreover, the three band members look as if they have made a career in the countryside and on second- to third-rate stages and venues. Places where the local youth sees a distorted guitar as rebellion and where you can impress quickly. A look at the band's concert list confirms this.
All in all, it's far too clean, far too insincere, and far too much in the past.
Hard rock fans with a penchant for bad taste might even like WILD CHAMPAGNE, but to everyone else, I can only advise: Stay away! Unless you can really take it and enjoy…well, bad music.
