CENOBITES from Rotterdam have brought a new album to the angry and crazy masses that call themselves Psychobillies.
The band has been around since 1994. “No Paradise for the Damned“ is their sixth album. The title could very well come straight from a pastor's pulpit. But it doesn't, or maybe it does? And why is there no paradise for the damned? Who is damned? Aren't the normals crazier than the crazies? Questions upon questions, but we are not here for a psychology lecture. We are here in the world of CENOBITES. And it is intense.

The guys haven't forgotten what it means to record songs that hit like a punch to the face. The opener “1000 Bullets“ impressively proves that. It drops your jaw and the punch can land. A riff-heavy psych piece with high tempo and loads of aggression in its flow. Wow, better get ready.
The band then slows down the tempo a bit. What emerges are songs that are very guitar-heavy and thus strongly reminiscent of old hard rock. This is further emphasized by the vocals of singer Dimitri. Only “Devil Domain“ heads back towards faster madness.
The CENOBITES are somewhere in the nirvana between madness, Mad Max, and crazy psychobilly. A crude but interesting and above all very listenable mix.
The eleven songs stick in your ear even after multiple listens. And song number 11 is not bad on its own.
So overall, a fine piece of music for the nonconformists and crazies of this world.
