AUTORAMAS come from Brazil and have been active since 1998.
Active can be taken quite literally. Since their first concerts, the band has always reached out for more gigs, quickly becoming known in the alternative rock scene in Brazil. But the band wanted more. The concerts grew larger, the allure of foreign countries beckoned, and now they have toured Japan, Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile. They have also made a good showing at the “MTV Music Awards in Brazil.” This not only sounds like a steep career, it is one.
However, with a big career, I always have the fear that the music is nothing more than big commerce, designed to appeal to as many people as possible.
AUTORAMAS are an exception to this. Their sound is very much underground. The song structure is not immediately mass-appealing, and the effects heard on the record make me think almost continuously of scene-related trash.
It’s their own mix of garage, trash, alternative rock, and space rock. Trashy, artistic, and garage-like, yet it never comes off as forced or pretentious, but rather like a crazy, musical band from the underground.
Even after multiple listens, the sound does not get boring. On the contrary, with each listen, more and more details emerge, showing that AUTORAMAS have created something very complex that knows how to impress in every respect.
