So, what is the name of the band? Sounds like the title of a gangbang porn.
Crazy? Sexist? Provocative?
Yes, of course, but it's fun.
With DUKES OF CUMSHOWER, we are talking about a rough hard rock band from Rostock. From the remnants of a disbanded punk band, the group has come together with other musicians to start anew. A new beginning with a lot of rock. The provocative elements were carried over from punk, as were the lyrics and the multifaceted cover. At first glance, you see just a beautiful avenue that visually leads straight to hell, or at least to the light. Why do I keep thinking of “Tobias” by Dritte Wahl? If you look longer, you see tire tracks from cars that end at the avenue trees. Where they end, you see crosses. “...crosses by the roadside, known or unknown,” a quote from a song by Zaunpfahl, runs through my mind. The title “One Step Closer to Hell” can thus be interpreted in various directions, even from a traffic psychology perspective. A clever story.
The songs also have great titles like “(She is) the sexiest sexist” or “Benefits of tits.” Unfortunately, these are only partially printed in the booklet. So there is room for interpretation here as well. If you haven't stopped reading by now, you've persevered and should be rewarded. Behind the facade hides the band's true self.
The band is by no means sexist, but maximally provocative.
The band writes intelligent lyrics that clearly show their punk origins. But that's not a bad thing, as the band demonstrates that hard rock can also have meaningful lyrics. Whether it's the obvious “Destroy the Naziscum” or the somewhat subtler “Call me the Duke.” These are lyrics that show where the band stands and that they think about the world. Nazis, megalomaniacal egotists, superficial girls without brains who have nothing but their looks—there are so many idiots in the world, and DUKES OF CUMSHOWER names them. The band does this with heavy hard rock that reminds me, alongside Motörhead, of “The Dukes” from Berlin, although these have fatter guitars and stay entirely in hard rock. The Rostock band mixes their hard rock with thrash metal and elements of newer punk rock.
A mix that hits hard and washes your head.
DUKES OF CUMSHOWER should be given a try if you don't see hard rock or thrash metal as foreign words.
The Rostock band will certainly not have it easy with their sound and clear statements, but they deserve more than just a chance.
