A beautiful summer day. It’s warm, you can let your soul dangle and relax.
Just think of nothing bad, just relax.
In this mood, the new album from BLACKEST DAWN arrives with me.
How fitting!
Not that one lets summer win.
BLACKEST DAWN emerged from the band Final Punch, which was founded in 2002. Over the years, there have been numerous lineup changes, which also came with a new band name, and thus Final Punch became BLACKEST DAWN.
The current lineup, which hopefully lasts longer, has delivered a brutal Death Metal album with “Soulgrinder.” It hits hard.
The guys turn each of the ten songs into a wild celebration. A pounding drum that hammers your mind meets two aggressive guitars and a fierce bass, providing the soundboard on which the two singers can unleash high-pitched, sometimes really screeching screams and fierce growls.
“Soulgrinder” is an aggressive symbiosis that follows the current trend of hard, brutal, and technically demanding sound without seeing it as a mere end in itself. Everything fits perfectly together here.
The album is not overproduced but recorded with a punch.
“Soulgrinder” is more than a business card that the band presents here; it’s a damn showcase that makes it clear why they have already played with bands like Napalm Death, Born from Pain, Barcode, Ryers, Warbringer, or Madball.
BLACKEST DAWN is definitely a band to remember.
