Here comes a load from Kölschrocktown. A colorful mix of well-known musicians or perhaps better said, bands from Cologne that were thought to be dead, have come together to hit you with German songs. Recently, the HEROES signed with the label BELLAPHON. What exactly this label means for them, or where this path will lead remains hidden from us for now. But the main thing is that the record is now coming to light and their well-produced work is finally sniffing the wide world.
With violin and saxophone, they mix their poppy German punk together, not to forget the usual instruments that are always present. Their works, consisting of 15 songs, stick well in your ear. The vocals, like the guitar, remind me a bit of the early days (sorry, no band comparisons here), although I do like the singing, it becomes somewhat monotonous after a few songs. With "Auf Wiedersehn," they drift a bit away from punk, but even this song has earworm quality. The lyrics contain the usual gossip and chatter about the job center, alcohol, and here and there something social. There’s also a little cover on the record, and I think very few will know it. Song 11 was already on the DR SOMMER release "ALLE KASSEN." To be honest, I preferred Mr. Ochwart (HBW) in the vocals. Well, it was written by Berrny back then, and for that reason, it is probably included on this record.
I have to mention a small downside... the violin doesn't really sound like a violin should. I would have liked to hear it more in a call-and-response mode against the saxophone and not always simultaneously. Nevertheless, the production is of high quality and is a lot of fun to listen to, I think even for those who don't particularly like German punk, as the song structure is not really catchy. Fine, fine what comes out of Kölschrocktown, and if they stay on the ball, the rest of Germany will soon hear much more!
