Reviewing a BONES album has always been an easy and welcome task. Everything fit perfectly, from the awesome punk'n'roll music to the booklet and packaging. There was always a full score, and for good reason.
Since the last album "Burnout Boulevard," five damn long years have passed, and I've also heard rumors of a breakup. Now the new album "Monkeys with guns" is out, and yes, something is different... Something is missing (or is there too much in it?), something feels different, or is it just me? For comparison, I listened to the old albums, which still hit hard as expected... I put the new album on again, and no, it doesn't shake the body like the old albums; it is indeed different.
Let’s be clear, THE BONES play at the highest level! Right at the top of the Champions League!
"Monkeys with guns" is really good, but it’s not what I expected and hoped for. Certainly better than 95% of the usual records, but not like before at 100%. Why? Everything is there, dirty, awesome, heavy rock... Exactly the right stuff for RAMONES, MOTÖRHEAD, and SOCIAL DISTORTION fans, and yet this album is different. By now, I’ve listened to the "Monkeys with guns" album several dozen times, and I like the 15 songs a little more each time, but I liked the old songs right away (!) from the first to the last note. I still haven’t figured out why it’s not the same with the new album. That annoys me :-( But it doesn’t change the fact that it won’t become another milestone in rock history.
Instead of the usual 10 BONES points, there are "only" 9, and since I don’t have a booklet, I’m deducting the usual half point. So that makes it 8½ points.
