Larry Brent alias X-Ray 3 is back on the hunt for mysterious crimes that are beyond normal human understanding. After the first 15 Larry Brent audio plays were released on the 'Europa' label nearly 30 years ago, 'Europa' added another 4 episodes 20 years later. Five years ago, an additional 4 audiobooks were released, each consisting of 3 CDs, but these only featured one speaker. All 19 episodes shared one thing in common: they were all horror-filled, thrilling, and entertaining. The author of these stories was Jürgen Grasmück alias Dan Shocker, who wrote nearly 200 more Larry Brent stories, including 'Zombies on the Orient Express,' which the label 'Russel & Brandon Company' is now releasing as a two-part audio play.
Unfortunately, these new episodes also feature new speakers, which one has to get used to at first. The sound effects on the two CDs are extravagant, very loud, and quite exaggerated. The crackling sound of a neck breaking sounds artificial and bizarre, but since I have never experienced a neck break, it may correspond to reality. Additionally, the new episodes contain more sex than the old ones; the theme of sex was hinted at before, and then the curtain was slowly drawn, but now things are much more explicit. However, I preferred the old scheme; Larry Brent enjoys, and we remain silent ;-)
As for the story, which has a runtime of 100 minutes and is therefore packed onto 2 CDs. At the request of Larry Brent's boss David Gallum alias X-Ray 1, Larry and his agent colleagues from the PSA try to solve a gruesome bloodbath in an old mansion and must, as always, fight for their lives. In search of their opponents, the PSA agents must ride on the Orient Express towards Budapest, where the showdown occurs in the second part. And that's exactly what I don't like, because without the second CD, the first CD is pointless; the first part ends right in the middle of the action, so one is inevitably forced to get the second part. This also means paying twice. L
I preferred the audiobooks that spanned 3 CDs but were in one package and therefore only 1.5 times the price of a normal CD.
Several negative points have now accumulated, which is why there are only 7 points.
