It has been about 2 ½ years since the Swiss band THE PEACOCKS released their album “After All“. The album stirred up quite a bit of dust and brought the band even more recognition than they already had in the scene.
Now, the successor “Don´t Ask“ is ready to go.
THE PEACOCKS have remained true to their sound and style. Neo-Rockabilly meets (’77) Punk and Pop, along with a good dose of melody.
The three Swiss still know how to compose catchy songs that get under your skin and make you want to move. You find yourself tapping your foot and even starting to sing along. The Swiss achieve this with a relaxed coolness that makes you wonder how they manage to pull it off so effortlessly. Guitarist and singer Hasu Langhart not only knows how to handle his six-string but also his voice. The songs, sung entirely in English, are perfectly arranged vocally. His colleagues on double bass and drums match Hasu musically in every way. They too can draw from their experience. The result is fourteen songs, almost all of which pack a punch.
The album opens with the somewhat restrained “What I want“, but then it builds momentum from song to song. By the fourth track “Don´t pretend to care when you don´t care“, the band is in familiar territory. Familiar territory doesn’t mean boredom, but rather liveliness, captivating music, and simply what makes this band unique. No other band mixes Neo-Rockabilly, (’77) Punk, and Pop as well and uniquely as they do.
“Don´t Ask“ is not a reinvention, but after 20 years of band history, that’s not necessary anymore. They can do what they like. The band does this in their usual excellent manner.
“Don´t Ask“ is a beautiful album and will surely echo from the speakers of my system several more times.
I also want to point out that THE PEACOCKS are simply captivating live. The Swiss will also be touring in Germany in 2012. Check out their homepage and go to a gig of the band. You won’t regret it!
