THE UNEMPLOYED CONSTRUCTION WORKERS are back, as can be heard in the first song "Incredible, but true!" Were the three from Chemnitz ever gone? I can't answer that, as I don't know the band at all, despite the five albums plus live CDs that the guys have released in their 14-year band history. A "Summer in Berlin," which is not only the name of the album but also the third track on the CD, I would also love to experience, but then I would surely age by years, as I would only remember the bed from a distant memory. As it goes in the mentioned song, "Sitting under the linden trees, cool beer and still sweating, a fat party all day long, we celebrate until the night." But when I was young..., that would certainly not have been a problem, as DAB (I'll shorten it) also see it in their song "We Were Young."
I like the 16 songs, a fresh breeze of punk rock with ska elements in "The Girl from St. Tropez" and a borrowed melody from EXTRABREIT. DAB certainly didn't steal; they were inspired! But you can also hear a bit of FARIN URLAUB and a little J.B.O., not just in the song "GoodMoodMusic," where they are mentioned by name.
I like the album, but "Summer in Berlin" will probably not become my favorite record even after multiple listens, which DAB sing about in the first song.
If anyone wants to listen to the songs, they can do so on the band's homepage. I think that's a good idea. But the album really shines with the booklet, even if the font choice wasn't the best. At least I find that the lyrics are hard to read because of it.
So far so good, but I still have one complaint. Now and then, you hear crackling interference noises, mainly in the slower songs like "With You." Was a second guitar recorded whose jack plug wasn't properly connected??? I don't know... But it only stands out rarely if you listen very closely...
