FAKE HEROES, what a band name, self-irony? Self-assessment? Or a critical look at the music industry that likes to stylize bands as heroes (and of course their fans who willingly go along)?
The five musicians that make up the band FAKE HEROES come from Italy, specifically from the city of Pescara, located east of Rome, and are releasing their first album, “Divide and Rule.”
The five Italians demonstrate on this album that they know a thing or two about music. The songs are intricately arranged and very well played. We are dealing with real musicians who don’t just strum randomly but actually want to make music. Stylistically, the sound can be placed somewhere between alternative rock, soft metal, and dark guitar rock. It’s music that wants to be heard. The songs are not suitable for casual listening. They unfold their effect when you can let them wash over you, taking the time to listen to the music. Then you can also leisurely flip through the booklet and read the intelligent English lyrics of the band.
Overall, there isn’t much to complain about with the album. The band has done a lot right. The vocals might be a bit too clean, but that’s a matter of taste and perhaps intentional by the band.
FAKE HEROES will find their fans, I am convinced of that. Anyone who enjoys decent rock with depth should definitely give the Italians a try.
