You don't hear about a Greek punk band every day.
I had never heard of VOODOO HEALERS until recently, even though the band has been around for 14 years and the guys are currently on their third European tour.
European tour is to be taken literally with this band. The journey takes them to Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, and Serbia.
With their third tour comes the band's third album, “First you dream after you Die“. After two self-released albums, the Munich label True Trash has taken the guys under their wing.
VOODOO HEALERS from Thessaloniki showcase their skills with twelve songs on “First you dream after you Die“, which is a really cool title by the way. The band plays a sound that is extremely reminiscent of the now-defunct Ramones. It almost seems like the guys listened to the Ramones in their playgroup. It sounds very much like the band that wrote punk rock history. The arrangements, the recording, and especially the vocals are very similar to the Ramones. If the band can't make significant progress with their own sound, they could effortlessly start a Ramones cover band. They would probably be more successful and certainly better than 90% of the existing cover bands.
Fans of the Ramones will love the VOODOO HEALERS. Anyone who likes bands like U.K. Subs, The Lurkers, and the like will also warm up to the Greeks. This is old-school punk rock. Nice mid-tempo songs to nod along to, and here and there you can sing along too.
However, those who do not like this sound will not find much to connect with the band.
