Hefty hardcore that doesn't have to hide internationally is very rare to find in Germany. One of these few bands is NASTY from the German-speaking, but Belgium-located Kelmis, which is pronounced La Calamine in French and was formerly known as Altenberg. To make the confusion perfect, it's less than 10 km from Kemis to Aachen. Unfortunately, I couldn't find much more about the quartet online, and there was no press material available either. But when I look at the photos of the 4 guys, it seems like the 4 NASTYs could have started a modeling career; instead, they have been playing their rich, powerful hardcore in full houses for 10 years. I like it, thumbs up. It's clear that the 16 songs on their fifth album "Shokka" all run between one and three minutes, typical hardcore.
Additionally, there are 2 prologues to the following songs, one being an excerpt from the now 30-year-old movie "The NeverEnding Story" (Note from me: I never liked it) and the second being a recording from the rehearsal or studio room, when one of the guys finds a ticket on his vehicle. Following that is "Politessenhass," one of the two German-language songs. The song is called "Phönix" and there is also a video for it
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6bdFkb4zdQ).
The other 9 songs are in English, and if you've been counting, you might notice that I mentioned 16 songs (plus 2 prologues) but have only listed 9+2 songs. Unfortunately, this album also includes an instrumental track that doesn't fit at all with the hardcore bangers. This guitar plucking in "Interlude" shows some musical qualities, but it doesn't belong on a hardcore album! Furthermore, the new songs on the album end with the second instrumental track "Outro," which also shows without lyrics where NASTY really stands.
In conclusion, "Shokka" also features 3 live songs from their older albums. They sound okay, but the speeches are unfortunately lacking. Of course, you want to party and have fun during a gig, but you also need to engage the audience. However, this shouldn't be mentioned repeatedly in a live recording; on the contrary, it doesn't belong on an output at all.
I only received a download of this album, but from the pictures of the digipack and the booklet, it seems that "Shokka" is also top-notch in terms of publication!!!
