Since 2002, THE MOVEMENT from Denmark has been around.
In the last 16 years, the band has experienced everything, as far as I can tell.
A steep rise followed the release of “move!“ in 2003, and then their second album “Revolutionary Sympathies“ continued on the fast track. The band quickly advanced from a hidden gem to the new hot shit. The terror group took them on tour. They played all over Europe. They played indoors and outdoors. They always gave 100% on stage. Hardly anyone could resist the joy of playing and the band. They quickly became the talk of the town.
For the band, 100% was not only their commitment on stage but also their political views, which they were never shy about. For justice and for the workers. They have read Marx, Liebknecht and Luxemburg are icons for them, they see socialism as a solution for our society and they want that solution. One could not blame them back then, and one cannot today either. Too much is going wrong on this earth, and let's be honest, what has improved in the last 16 years?
Thus, the band is more relevant than ever with their songs!
There have been many lineup changes in THE MOVEMENT. The steep rise was followed by a staircase that led downwards. The clubs became smaller, as did the open-air stages.
The head of the band, Lukas Scherfey, then recorded songs that he released under his own name. These songs were different from the songs of THE MOVEMENT. They were mostly fine, delicate, yearning love songs.
Unfortunately, success did not come. I would have wished it for him. They are beautiful, wonderfully beautiful songs.
THE MOVEMENT reformed again, this time with new band members. And now, slowly but surely, things are starting to look up again.
The second album “Revolutionary Sympathies“ will be re-released by Concrete Jungle, just like the first album “move!“ and the third album “Fools like You“.
This album “Fools like You“ is currently the last album of the Danish mod-punk band.
The lyrics are again very concrete, very combative, and very absolute. This is already clear from the first lines of the first song “Monday Morning“, which are:
We need to organize.
And put our words in action.
And the second song “We got Marx“ asks “Why don’t you wake up?“. This question has been posed by the band for five years. Of course, we have gotten up and fought. What have we created? For every small victory, there was a major defeat. These setbacks cost energy, and getting back up takes strength. Here, the song “Fools like You“ is like an arm that lays over your shoulder, providing strength and support. Yes, you can truly say that the song embraces you.
Of course, there are also songs about love and longing on this album, like the fourth song “Since you’ve been gone“ or the almost sentimental “Saving all my kisses“ and of course also “I can hardly live without you“. With these songs, the album comes to an end.
Love and street fighting. Longing for “her“ and the longing for a fairer world, these are the cornerstones of this album.
Musically, “Fools like You“ has matured even more. The recording is very powerful, the band is very eager to play, the sound is captivating, and the lyrics are once again very touching.
THE MOVEMENT have now recorded three albums, each of which could provide the soundtrack to the revolution. Only together are we strong. Workers united!
