This release is the band's third album and delivers ten tracks of very catchy yet never watered-down Pop-Punk. It’s a sound that feels instantly familiar and one would expect more from California.
MERCY MUSIC creates quite a stir as a trio, and with their melodic, forward-driving punk songs that you could also hear on the radio, they know how to please.
The trio can also play quite well acoustically, which they demonstrate with the title track “Nothing in the dark.” Beautiful vocal performance, nice guitar playing. This song stands out a bit, but in the middle of the album, it serves as a well-placed break and a pleasant interlude before the pedal is pressed down again.
MERCY MUSIC has released a pleasantly listenable, appealing album with “Nothing in the dark.” Not watered down but also not hard. It’s enjoyable to listen to, doesn’t hurt, and that can be seen as a weak point of an otherwise well-rounded piece. Not much sticks with you.
Anyone who likes Pop-Punk should definitely give “Nothing in the dark” a try.
