"The second song has to be a hit," is the second song on "Ey!", the debut album by KALLE. And let me tell you, the song is a hit! A major earworm hit, so to speak; check out this song on YouTube, the link is up here.... You will be thrilled! Amazing.
Not that the first song "Blümchen auf dem Ruhrpott Rodeo" is bad; it's good and gets a little better every time I listen to it (and I've listened to the album quite a few times), but "The second song has to be a hit" surpasses "Blümchen auf dem Ruhrpott Rodeo". Although, it has nice bass lines and then this (metal) guitar solo, well done....
Speaking of metal and guitar solos, with a "punk-rock-metal band," as KALLE describes themselves on their Facebook page, they really hit the (nail) on the head.
In the release info for "Ey!" they mention NOFX, CHEFDENKER, and GREEN DAY, which somewhat aligns with their musical direction, but also IRON MAIDEN and BLIND GUARDIAN, of which I only know that one song from the Brits, you know, the one, yes exactly that one.....
Still, I see the four Berliners musically somewhere else. I think of the 12+3 songs on this album more in line with a well-known band from Berlin (from Berlin), as well as the beautiful old songs from WIZO and WOHLSTANDSKINDER, paired with BRDIGUNG, but you should check it out yourself; there’s more from KALLE on YouTube.
For the other songs, I can only repeat what I already wrote about "Blümchen auf dem Ruhrpott Rodeo." "Effort but without meaning," "The worst thing about the revelation is the trumpets," etc. are good punk rock songs, some with a bit of metal in them. I like it! And no panic, not every song title from KALLE is that long ;-) There are also "Arbeiterarbeit," "Frau Hund," "Ey!" etc. on "Ey!" (a really short and concise album name!) ;-)
With "Alter weisser Mann," "Wenn es dunkel wird," and "Privat ist er eigentlich ganz nett," there are also clear words against the lateral thinkers, AfD supporters, and (old) Nazis. Rightly so!
An extra point goes to the vinyl release in a lovely semi-transparent violet. It also comes with a download code, which allows you to listen to the B-sides of the three single releases "The second song has to be a hit," "Tante Emma" (a continuation of "Emma Peel," from that other band from Berlin?) and "Das Glitzern," with these additional three songs also being great and stretching the album to a solid 45 minutes, 45 entertaining minutes!
