The ANTILOPEN GANG is releasing a new project on Christmas Eve. A new album... something like that.
Normally, labels put together samplers featuring artists from their roster. However, the label "Antilopen Geldwäsche" doesn't have that many artists and bands. To be precise, it actually only has one band.
So, is the ANTILOPEN GANG making a sampler about themselves?
Something similar was done by the Duisburg band Eisenpimmel with their release "Bau keine Scheisse mit Bier". They featured contributions from bands like Silbergurke Spezial, Ali Minium, and die Gleitplanken or Chrommöhre.
On the record "Antilopen Geldwäsche Sampler 1", the Gang is not using made-up band names; instead, they appear together, sometimes solo, sometimes as a duo, and of course with many guests.
ANTILOPEN GANG has become one of the most well-known... well, what actually? Hip Hop bands? Rap commercial groups?... whatever it is, they are not only commercially successful but also known far beyond the genre boundaries that don't exist for them. Now something new is coming, and a thousand eyes are on it. Especially after Danger Dan released one of the most unusual albums of the year with "Das ist alles von der Kunstfreiheit gedeckt".
This thing didn't just go through the roof; it went through the whole house!
What will the three of them come up with together?
First, they are releasing just three songs together and one with Zugezogen Maskulin. Eight more songs are either solo, as a duo, or with guests. Here you can tell that the guys can do almost everything by now. Rap, Hip Hop, Rock, Pop, Punk, piano music, and everything in between and beyond.
It's fascinating when you let all of this sink in. They casually do what they feel like, and it's exactly this casualness that allows the guys to capture it so effortlessly and yet professionally in a recording.
As a result, they probably fall through many filters because they can't be easily categorized. This is exactly what contributes to their fame and ensures that nothing comes across as forced. Despite this casualness, there have never been any nonsensical lyrics.
They still speak their minds clearly and don't hold back.
Reflection and criticism of themselves and society are conveyed with the magnificent "Nazis Rein". Political rap that holds a mirror up to the entire country.
With "Uns und denen", they charmingly yet precisely critique the scene and its narrow-mindedness.
"If there is a code, I will break it.
I want nothing to do with honor and respect. No!"
The last two songs are a bit... well, special.
It is well known that the ANTILOPEN GANG are big fans of Die Toten Hosen. Their label JKP has released several albums by the Gang, significantly contributing to their success. Thus, the last song, which is by Die Toten Hosen, is an unreleased live version of "Wünsch dir was". It was recorded in Buenos Aires. It brings back memories of the old days when the Hosen were still punk.
But the second-to-last song... what is that? Does it have to be like this?
So this sampler or album... this release... offers something for everyone.
I can hardly imagine that anyone wouldn't find something relatable on this record.
