The monsters from the hard rock dungeon, the evildoers from the metal dungeon, the ominous ones from the thrash metal hell... they have done it again.
In line with the state of the world, their new album is called “The new dark ages“.
It is the 17th long player of the band (if my research is correct). As so often, the album is not just released. It is celebrated and accompanied by a graphic novel. One could also say that the long player is the soundtrack to the vividly printed paper. Or the paper is the visual representation of the music.
GWAR offers on “The new dark ages“ what the band has been loved for over the years.
There are fat guitar riffs, dominant battle drums... uh, drumming, and vocals that proclaim the truths of the world.
In many places, the new dark times are already a reality. The “Berserker Mode“ is activated. The title track naturally takes no prisoners. Here, in the third song of the album, the clean, high vocals come into play for the first time, transitioning directly into a wicked, almost hardcore-like singing. What is offered here, vocally, is cinematic.
The other songs are no less impressive.
The album features 12 songs, top-notch material for anyone who can appreciate metal. GWAR has many friends, so it’s no surprise that the band is playing at this year’s “Wacken Open Air“. It’s going to be a celebration, folks!
The last three songs all have the addition “Death Whistle Suite“ in their titles. The three songs serve as a counterpoint on the album. More fitting as a soundtrack to a film or a video game than on a live stage. They herald doom. They are rarely loud and wicked, but they show what can come.
This long player underscores the class of GWAR. Probably, it doesn’t even need that, because everyone knows... GWAR is...
The greatest rock band in the history of this or any other planet..
and the album is
the greatest record of all time.
There’s nothing more to say, and nothing more is needed.
On September 16, 2022, the best and greatest album of all time will also be released on vinyl and for the ghetto blaster in the park, also on cassette!
