LUMPEN are an Italian band with a German name, similar to the band from Moscow that plays German-speaking punk rock and goes by the name Der Steinkopf.
However, LUMPEN do not play German-speaking punk rock, but rather on “We will stand together“ they deliver old-school Streetpunk / Oi-Punk for the first time in English instead of their native language.
Three men from Cosenza in Italy, who met in 1999 in a self-managed center, decided to make music. After 23 years, their third studio album is now being released, which does some things differently and many things very well. Let’s take a closer look at this good piece.
The Italian trio offers 11 songs. Each of these songs is melodic, catchy, and dressed in the typical garb of old-school Oi or Streetpunk. The vocals are prominently upfront, the drums provide a steady rhythm, and the guitar and bass play catchy melodies along with it. There are many sing-along parts, all at a pleasant mid-tempo.
This is the sound of the street!
LUMPEN know where they come from, what they are, and what they want to be in the future. Skinheads from the street, for the street.
The song titles, the lyrics, and the themes sung about are classic Oi. It doesn’t get much more classic than this.
Sometimes perhaps a bit overdone, but since the guys are a bit older, you believe every line and every riff.
LUMPEN “We will stand together“ is classic Oi, as you rarely hear it. A perfect mix of well-played music, an attitude that is beyond any doubt, and the knowledge that the life they lead is a good, a right life.
There’s no shouting here, they sing.
No bravado here, they know where they come from.
With this, their third album, LUMPEN have not only released their first English-language album but also present themselves in the form of their lives. Hopefully, this album opens the doors for the three Italians that they deserve.
