It's a shame that you only get to know some bands when they no longer exist. That's how I feel about WILLY FOG, who disbanded back in 2015. By that time, the Dortmund band had released 2 split records, one album, and a tape (!) before calling it quits. However, they didn't account for their fans, who started a crowdfunding campaign last year to re-release the tape, 10 years after its release (which must have been in 2012), as vinyl. And that's a good thing, because this way I get to know (and I hope you do too) the Dortmund band with their dark, minimalist, melodic emo-post-punk. Nothing fits better with these dreary November/December days (today 7°C, drizzling rain, 0 minutes of sunshine)! 37 minutes of sad music, sad sound, sad German lyrics. WILLY FOG Wonderful....
Okay, it seems to me that the sound doesn't quite match 100% in 2-3 places, especially in the demo recordings on this "birthday vinyl" piece. But that's 110% DIY sound and comes across even more authentically because of it. And the small profit from the sale of the 100 limited vinyl records goes to the self-organized homeless aid "face2face" in Dortmund. My thumb goes up once again.
Still not convinced by WILLY FOG? Then here are some song titles from the 10 tracks + intro and demos: Gunther Grau, Single Mother No. 527 please pay at cash register 3, Nosebleed, Barefoot, and Arthur Auwers – Love Murderer.
A must for all depression-punk lovers who are into EA80, DIE STRAFE, and FLIEHENDE STÜRME. Or also into JOY DIVISION, KILLING JOKE, and WIPERS...
Come on, get off the couch, put the beer bottle aside, and buy the record!!!!
