THE BABOON SHOW have evolved from a hidden gem to a band that almost everyone appreciates over the years. They are as famous as they are infamous for their energetic, if not extremely described, live shows. Singer Cecilia is loved by many for her provocative stage presence, especially by women who see her as a figure of identification for their own emancipation. Moreover, Cecilia does not hold back her thoughts. She says what she thinks and thinks what she says. Of course, a healthy dose of provocation is part of the deal. After all, she is a punk rocker. The sound of the Swedes reflects this as well.
The magic of THE BABOON SHOW lies in the interplay of music and honest, authentic performance. Swedish punk rock with grit and plenty of groove.
Their tenth album does not fall short in any way.
Cecilia Boström's voice comes across on “God bless you all“ perhaps a bit rougher, raspier, and more screechy than usual. This not only gives the songs a lot of character but also makes them something unique. The voice gives the songs a distinctive feature. The songs of THE BABOON SHOW can be recognized anywhere. The music consists of beautiful punk rock melodies with room for guitar solos and choruses. So everything that the Swedes are known and loved for.
There is little to criticize about the album for fans of the band, and newcomers will find twelve songs that perfectly represent the band.
Personally, I still can't quite connect with Cecilia's singing. The voice is not to my taste and probably never will be in this form. However, this is just my personal opinion and should not undermine the band's quality.
If I want to hear something cool from Sweden, I turn to The Hives. After all, something from The Hives is also included on “God Bless You All“, as Johan Gustafsson produced the album. If you listen closely, The Hives are not that far off either.
