ZOMBIE JAMBOREE from Strasbourg, France, have released their second album. According to the press release, the album is set to shake up the rockabilly scene. The humorous trio aims to bring fresh air with their neo-rockabilly.
Those are some pretty big words being written.
What does reality look like?
The French actually play a nice and catchy sound that, while firmly rooted in the present time, is anchored in neo-rockabilly but has clear roots in the rockabilly and rock 'n' roll of past eras. Many old classics come to mind. This is further enhanced by the very good but not overly polished recording. ZOMBIE JAMBOREE does not make the mistake that many (young) bands do, which is to make recordings ultra-polished just because they can, it doesn't cost much anymore, and it's supposedly supposed to sound better. ZOMBIE JAMBOREE shows that a polished production is not necessary. If the songs are good and the arrangements are tight, that holds much more value than a wide sound. A wide sound would be out of place here anyway.
Perfectly produced, the double bass, the beautiful tinkling guitar playing, and the minimal drums come across well. The vocal parts are well placed, and above all, the singing is good.
In short, everything fits here!
Anyone who likes rockabilly and old-school rock 'n' roll, dislikes clichés, and appreciates a good band should definitely check out ZOMBIE JAMBOREE.
The release is appropriately available only on vinyl... and of course also digitally.
